Kanreki Surprise

The night of Oscar's Omiyamairi we celebrated his grandfather's 60th birthday, which is a special day here called the Kanreki. He actually turned 60 in the fall, but they waited until we were here for the Kanreki celebration. Part of the deal is to wear this traditional red hat and vest, and you get presents of red clothing from everyone in the family. Lots of laughs. We had a surprise party for Takeshi-san at a nice local sushi restaurant run by friends of the family, and lots of friends from the neighbourhood visited. He was totally surprised, and the food was amazing. Oscar had a good time hanging out with Hana and crawling around under the tables and ended up crashed out next to his mom.
