proud papa
Sorry, Oscar fans, this is a mostly kid-free edition of Magurobashi. Don't worry, the boy is doing fine and I'll put up some more pictures of him soon. Mostly I've been writing about my family here, and today isn't really that different because our friends are also family to us. And last night meant a lot, because it was our good friends The Deadly Snakes' final show. They've been playing together for ten years, and they've been a big part of our lives for just as long. I don't doubt that I'll still be friends with these guys another ten years down the road - but even if I see them every day, I'll always miss The Deadly Snakes. They played a great, wild final show last night that was never maudlin or false. They should be proud. I'm proud for them.
It is kind of funny that their departure coincides so closely with Oscar's arrival. The events have nothing to do with each other, of course, but it is strange what symmetry a life can have sometimes. How one chapter ends so completely, just as another begins. On the other hand, things are never as simple as that - everything overlaps. Oscar is already a famous little guy, everyone I knew and some people I barely know were asking me about him last night. I'm a proud papa.
Wakaba stayed home with Oscar last night so I could go to the show. It was pretty much the first time I'd been out of Parkdale since O.T.'s arrival, and definitely the longest I'd been away from the boy. Wakaba reports that they didn't miss me at all, and both of them slept through almost the whole time I was away. I was back just in time to change a big wet diaper. I was only out for a few hours, but it still felt weird. I guess I have to get used to it. I have to go back to work on Monday. No more hanging out in the park all morning every day, no more reading "Good Night Moon" ten times a day. It's been the best month of my life.
Here's some pictures of the late, great Deadly Snakes:
